Help! My Kitchen and bathroom needs some TLC!

For many individuals, the kitchen is the heart of the home. It's the place where people gather to prepare or share a great meal. So it’s no surprise, that close to the Christmas season, when friends and family living abroad decide to return home for a true Trini Christmas, homeowners always think about updating their kitchens so that they can entertain their guests. The bathroom is also a popular area that gets attention and may need to be renovated before the holiday season.

If your kitchen/bathroom is in total disrepair, then a renovation is inevitably. However, if your kitchen/bathroom has a good layout and structure, then you might wish to consider a quick remodel. Choosing to remodel your kitchen or bathroom cabinets can lead to tremendous savings, which means more money in your pocket.

Here are a few tips when considering remodeling your kitchen/bathroom:

1. Restore, Reuse, Replace
To restore the look of your kitchen or bathroom cabinets, consider re-staining/vanishing. There are a wide assortment of stains/finishes you can choose from. Depending on the style of your existing cabinets, you may be able to reuse your cabinets by creating a new cabinet door style. If you cabinet doors have seen better days, then it may be best to replace with new doors.

2. Spruce up with Paint
Paint can add good texture and depth to your cabinets, creating a fresh new look. Who
says cabinets need to be painted in white? Homeowners are stepping out of the box
and experimenting with various colours to create a one of a kind look that is
guaranteed to have friends and family raving about their kitchen or bath.

3. Get a Handle on Things
Handles/ knobs are essential to finishing the look of your cabinets. There are a wide
assortment of handles you can choose from. You can check out your local hardwares or
specialty stores when trying to select the right handles/knobs. Bear in mind that the
handles / knobs should be suited to the overall style of the kitchen or bathroom.

4. The Counter argument
Counters should not be neglected. Homeowners have many options available to them. Some popular choices are laminate, tile, concrete, solid surface, granite, quartz or marble.
